For 5G or fifth generation wireless communication, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Filter Bank Multi-carrier modulation (FBMC) are the most dominant waveform contenders.
In this work we have presented a new design and prototyping experience of an advanced communication system based on filter-bank Multicarrier and offset-QAM modulation(FBMC/OQAM). This modulation has being studied and has being considered nowadays by recent research projects as a key enabler for the future flexible 5G air interface because it exhibits better spectrum shape in comparison to the traditional OFDM and enables a better spectrum usage ... .
In this research report , The disadvantages of OFDM have also been addressed and it has shown that filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) could be a more effective solution.
The comparative analysis of FBMC and OFDM has been performed based on Power Spectral Densities, sub channels, computational complexity, prototype filter comparison and magnitude response simulated using MATLAB.
